What is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave therapy is an acoustic wave, that was originally developed for thenon-surgical treatment of kidney stones. It was later found to benefit in relievingmusculoskeletal pain and aches, as well as reducing the appearance of cellulite.
ShockWave is used to treat cellulite wherever it appears on the body – especially on theouter and inner thigh area and buttocks. ShockWave is one of our most powerfultechniques specifically for cellulite and works by sending pressure waves to the lowerlayers of tissue through a series of acoustic pulses that stimulate fat breakdown, collagen synthesis, and lymphatic drainage.
What is Cellulite?
Cellulite affects both men and women, although it is more common in females because the fat distribution and connective tissue are differentthan in males. Loose connective tissue or dimpled bumpy skin often occurring as a result of giving birth, surgery and weight loss. Other factors thatinfluence how much cellulite a person has and how visible it is include: poor diet, slow metabolism, age, lack of physical activity, hormonechanges, dehydration, total body fat, genetics, as well as the skin’s thickness and color. Cellulite and aging? With age, the body’s ability to produce collagen and elastin, (fibers that make up ligaments and tendons, cartilage, skin and bone tissue) whichgive connective tissue strength, flexibility and elasticity, decreases. This causes the skin to dimple, sag, stretch, and lose its ability to snapback after stretching. The bands lose their elasticity and become more rigid and tense making cellulite more common with age. The skin alsobruises and tears more easily and takes longer to heal. Cellulite and Weight gain? Enlarged fat cells bulge upwards toward the skin reducing the elasticity of the surrounding connective tissue, lymphatic flow and bloodcirculation, which leads to the undesirable dimpling or bumpy appearance.
How is Shockwave Therapy Performed?
First, you will have a consultation with our shockwave therapy provider. During your consultation, you will discuss your medical history, current cellulite concerns, medications you are taking and your expectations. Our cellulite therapy provider will answer questions you may have and recommend treatment options, pricing, anddiscuss a protocol that is right for you. The treatment is completely non-invasive, utilising the Swiss EMS Dolorclast Shockwave technique. How many treatments will I need and what is the cost?
The number of treatment will be recommended after your first consultation In general, a set of 6 treatments is recommended per area at the time to be followed by a complimentary consultation. To monitor the progress of your condition and to recommend further sessions We charge $250 per 30 minutes per area $125 per 15 min
How long is a Treatment Session?A typical EPAT/AWT Shockwave Therapy session takes anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. First, we apply a conducting gel to the area you want treated. Then we move the acoustic wand over the skin’s surface, administering a strong, vibrating pulse. Pressure, length of session, and intensity will depend on your particular treatment areas, severity of your cellulite dimpling, and therapy tolerance. Is Shockwave Therapy Painful?
In terms of discomfort, shockwave therapy can vary depending on individual pain thresholds and the area being treated. Some patients may experience mild discomfort and a sensation of pressure during the procedure, while others may find it more uncomfortable, particularly if the treatment area is sensitive or if higher intensity settings are needed. It is important to actively communicate how you’re feeling through the treatment, so the technician can modify the settings used to ensure effectiveness and comfort. The treatment itself is quite quick per area, and breathing techniques can aid in dealing with any discomfort felt during. Over the counter pain relief can be taken 15 minutes prior to the treatment for added comfort.
When will I see results? Shock wave therapy will help your body to expel damaged tissue to be replaced by new healthier ones. This will happen gradually over the a few weeks. Maintenance programs might be needed for some areas normally the results are long lasting
