SPASM AND CRAMP
As Electrical Stimulation increases blood flow and can also be used to gently pump and massage muscles, it naturally follows that Ultratone Biostimulation can also be useful in reducing spasms or cramps. If the spasm or cramp is due to overuse of the muscle during active exercise, poor circulation, or dehydration, then Ultratone Biostimulation can safely be used to alleviate the condition. It is strongly recommended to drink half a liter of water before and after the Ultratone Stimulation to help the body rehydrate and evacuate toxins. (*18)
SPASTICITY
Spasticity is usually caused by damage to nerve pathways within the spinal cord or brain. More recently a study has shown that improvement in motor function following Electrical Stimulation is related to the strengthening of the stimulated spastic muscle and inhibition of the antagonist. (*19)It is useful to note that Electrical Stimulation such as Ultratone may need to be ongoing as it has been observed that spasticity returns once the muscles have ceased to be electrically stimulated for a period of time. (*20)
WEAK OR STIFF JOINTS
An ageing joint can often cause pain or prevent full mobility which in turn leads to further muscle atrophy. To counteract this debilitating vicious cycle Ultratone Biostimulation can be used to help reduce pain, activate blood flow, promote healing and strengthen the supporting muscles which support the hip joint. If your hip dysfunction is due to ARTHRITIS Ultratone Treatment may be applied to help manage discomfort and strengthen muscles. (*21)
WEAK OR STIFF BACK
Lack of exercise, poor posture, or the beginning of osteoporosis can make the back a vulnerable area, prone to discomfort and muscle weakness. Although it is a good idea to stimulate the dorsal muscle for extra support and circulation to the spine, it is often the additional strengthening of the obliques and abdominal muscle which will give the best results. (*22)
SCIATICA
Sciatica is usually caused by pressure on the static nerve from a herniated disc (also referred to as a bulging disc, ruptured disc, or pinched nerve). It is the pain along the large static nerve that runs from the lower back down through the buttocks and along the back of each leg, that is a relatively common form of back pain. This problem is often diagnosed as a “radiculopathy”, meaning that a disc has protruded from its normal position in the vertebral column and is putting pressure on the radial nerve. With Ultratone Stimulation we can help to ease Sciatica through TENS pain relief. (*23)
Image one: Alternate the TENS placement. Increase the stimulation until a strong but comfortable tensing of the abdominal and oblique muscles is seen and felt. (*23)
Image two: TENS pain relief and place the pads in position. The stimulation should be so gentle that it is barely perceptible. (*23)
