SHOCKWAVE THERAPY FAQ

Common Questions About Shockwave Therapy Treatments

Our friendly staff are here to answer any of your questions about our DolarClast® Shockwave Therapy treatments, but here are some commonly asked questions:

How does shockwave therapy work?

High-pressured acoustic shock waves are applied to the treatment site using a wand in shockwave therapy. The shocks penetrate the skin and aid in tissue healing and pain alleviation.

What conditions does shockwave therapy treat?

Conditions like tendinitis of the Achilles, shoulder, gluteal, hamstring, and patella, as well as heel spurs, tennis and golfer's elbow. Shockwave therapy is also effective for treating other musculoskeletal issues such shin splints, osteitis pubis, and Osgood Schlatter/Sever's disease. Impressive outcomes have been recorded, especially in circumstances when previous treatments haven't worked.

What does a shockwave therapy treatment session involve?

Treatments begin by identifying and marking the areas of pain needing treatment. Gel is applied to increase the transmission of shockwaves to the tissue. Shockwaves are then applied using the DolorClast® Shockwave Therapy machine.

How long does it take to see results from shockwave therapy?

While the stimulation may produce some discomfort, patients often feel immediate reduction of pain in the first 24 hours after treatment.

How many DolorClast® Shockwave sessions are required?

After the initial assessment is completed, and where deemed appropriate, EMS recommends between one to five treatments. Based on a weekly session for the first three treatments and then fortnightly for another two treatments. After monitoring the healing process a maintenance plan of one treatment per month may be recommended until full recovery is achieved. For faster recovery Laser and Radial Shockwave can be used together. When Laser is used in conjunction with DolorClast® Radial Shockwave Therapy, an average of three to eight sessions, held twice per week, may be necessary.

When can you resume normal activities after a shockwave session?

Daily activities can resume immediately after the DolorClast® Shockwave Therapy treatment because there is no impact on your daily life or downtime required.
